I don't have lines to tell you people would typically say while they are on a mission trip. I don’t have any great stories about how God showed Himself or how He moved mountains in the barrios, but what I can tell you may have a different impact then a healing story.
Yes I went out this week and had my light shinning in barrios. However, that is not what God had sticking out in my mind when I was considering what to write about in this blog. Instead I had my personal Jesus time stuck on my mind.
See this past week I have been digging into the name of our awesome God. I had previously thought I understood everything about it. He had the typical broad spectrum in my mind which went from all powerful God of the universe to our personal Father who loves us each individually. Don’t get me wrong now He is all those things, but He is also so much more that any words I type wouldn’t do Him a fraction of justice. I mean poets, artists and song writers have been trying for thousands of years to try to capture God and His entire splendor and have failed. If someone were to some how compile every song, poem and any other expression that has described God into one glorious work, it wouldn’t come close.
God is so great, so powerful, so creative, so loving, so everything that angels have been flying around Him since before the beginning of time and still haven’t seen all His awesomeness.
He is so great that He doesn’t just have one name. I mean let’s be real here I have more then one name and I am a mere human, who without Christ, am not even worthy of being dust in His courtyard. Rather, our almighty God has multiple names with different meanings all of which try to grasp just one part of God.
I took one week to attempt to scratch the surface of the name of God. I only looked at seven different names, but it shed a new light on the name of God. It made me realize that when I go to pray I am not just asking some heavenly being to listen to my requests and gratitude. No, when I say “Dear God,” I am asking for the attention of The Lord of Hosts, The Lord of Righteousness, My Father, the Prince of Peace, My Sanctifier, My Shepherd, The Everlasting God, The Most High God, The Creator of Heaven and Earth, God Almighty, My Rally Point, The God of Israel, Adonai, Theos, Kurios, Despotes and the names could go on forever.
Demons fall on their face and mountains shake at the mention of the name of God and He still eagerly waits to hear my voice. I shouldn’t take it forget that power I have or take it for granted. Each time I pray I should take a moment, pause, remember who I am about to talk with and then speak to the God who wants to hear form me. Just think the same God that placed Jupiter in space and sowed the atom together is the same one that turns His ear to me.
The same goes for you too.
